From Staff Reports
The Daily Star announces the hiring of Melissa Meador as a summer intern. Meador is a graduate student at Ole Miss majoring in journalism. She began her studies at Ole Miss last fall. She has written articles for the campus newspaper, The Daily Mississippian, and also serves as copy editor. She received a B.A. in communications in 2008 from Mississippi State University where she served as sports editor of the student newspaper, The Reflector. “During my time as sports editor, the Mississippi State football team played in the Liberty Bowl, and the basketball team went to the NCAA tournament. It was a lot of fun,” she said. Meador was a student at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville for three years where she majored in journalism. While at Northeast, she wrote for the student newspaper The Beacon, and was a member of the chamber choir and the chorus. Meador, a native of Corinth, is a 2003 graduate of Alcorn Central High School. Meador said she decided to major in journalism because it was an area in which she thought she could excel. “I also found that I enjoyed writing,” she said. Among her duties as an intern, Meador will write articles and take photos for The Daily Star and work on the upcoming Grenada Magazine and other special editions. Meador said she is looking forward to her opportunity. “I hope to use my experience here as a way to prepare myself for future career endeavors,” she said.
