Grenadians will get a break from the seven percent state sales tax on back-to-school items during the tax holiday set for this weekend.
According to the Mississippi Department of Revenue, the sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m., Friday, and ends at midnight on Saturday.
Sales tax will not be collected on clothing items or footwear as long as the sales price does not exceed $100.
Mayor Billy Collins said the sales tax holiday will make it easier by giving a small tax break to Grenadians getting ready for the upcoming school year.
“We are participating,” he said. “The tax holiday will cover everything that is needed for uniforms, but will not school supplies.”
