Ten Years Ago – 1999 Proposed Grenada Lake golf course awaits federal approval. Grenada County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jerry Acey announces he intends to resign. Grenada VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Voice of Democracy audio essay winners are Tasha Bodet, Elise Hyer, and Reginald Harrington. 25 Years Ago – 1984 Warren Toombs is Carrier of the Month for The Daily Sentinel-Star. Winfred “Winky” McAdams is appointed District Director of the District Three Farmers Home Administration. The Grenada High School Marching Band wins some 22 state and regional trophies for the season. Grenada’s 53 cotton farmers plant 10,500 acres. A “break-even” crop is predicted. 50 Years Ago – 1959 County offices close to honor deceased 16-year veteran Circuit Clerk Charles J. Worsham. Mrs. Aline Bridges Worsham is appointed to the post by the Board of Supervisors. The new Grenada County Elementary School on Jones Road holds open house. Pres. Dwight Eisenhower, and a small staff, leaves the country by jet transport to visit 11 European countries. Chamber of Commerce officers are Henry Ray Jr., B.H. Allen, Francis Criss, J.L. Townes, Kenneth Lundburg, William H. Fedric, Juel Batson, Tommy Bell, John Brewer, Hugh Ketchum, and John Keeton. 100 Years Ago – 1909 Football is banished from public schools in New York. Grenada is soon to have “one of the best brass bands in the country.” The bowling alley on East Main Street is “becoming very popular” as ladies begin “taking up the fad.”
