John C. Calhoun III Funeral services for John C. “Bubba” Calhoun III, 59, of Vaiden were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oliver Chapel. Burial followed in Vaiden Cemetery. Mr. Calhoun died Nov. 27, 2009, at Regency Hospital in Jackson of heart failure. He was the son of Maxine Calhoun Self and the late John C. Calhoun II. Mr. Calhoun was a self-employed mechanic and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church near Vaiden. He was big-hearted, loved westerns, and loved to sing. In addition to his mother, surviving Mr. Calhoun are a daughter, Kayla Calhoun; a son, Shawn Calhoun; four sisters, Linda Bridges, Wanda Cooke, Brenda Loftin, and Gwen Whitworth; two grandchildren, a great-uncle, and a host of nieces and nephews. Erline Henderson Crowder Funeral services for Erline Henderson Crowder, 88, of French Camp were at 2 p.m. Friday at Huntsville Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in French Camp Cemetery. Mrs. Crowder died Nov. 24, 2009, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville of heart failure. She was the daughter of the late Derrell Daniel Henderson and Estelle Pearson Henderson. Mrs. Crowder was a retired employee of French Camp Academy and a member of Huntsville Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband, Marvis Crowder of French Camp; son, Jerry Crowder of French Camp; sister, Ruby Stevens of French Camp; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Laura Eva Dendy Hamlin Graveside services for Laura Eva Dendy Hamlin, 96, of Choctaw County, formerly of Carlsbad, N.M., were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Dacus Cemetery near Stewart. Mrs. Hamlin died Nov. 26, 2009, at Winona Manor of heart failure. She was the daughter of the late John Lemuel Dendy and Nancy M. Rialey Dendy. Mrs. Hamlin was a retired waitress and a member of Huntsville Church of Christ in the Huntsville Community of Montgomery County. In addition to her parents, preceding Mrs. Hamlin in death are her husband, Elden Reuben Hamlin, two sisters, and four brothers. Billie Ross James Jr. Billie Ross James Jr., 58, died Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, at his home in Gore Springs after an extended battle with cancer. He was born July 17, 1951, in Grenada, to Billie Ross Sr., and Grace Harrison James. Billie Ross and his wife, Karen, owned and operated B’s Grocery in Gore Springs for 31 years. “B” was an avid crappie fisherman and hunter. He was a member of Gore Springs Methodist Church, Gore Springs Hunting Club, and the National Rifle Association. Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Gore Springs Methodist Church with the Rev. Harvey Springer and the Rev. Roy Hawkins officiating. Interment followed follow in Gore Springs Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Garner-Harper Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Ronnie Childs, Darren Harrison, David Harrison, Jeff Harrison, Kevin Harrison, and Paul Harrison. Honorary Pallbearers were the members of Gore Springs Hunting Club. Billie Ross is survived by his wife of 32 years, Karen Alexander James; his daughter, Keri James Baker and husband, Timothy, of Gore Springs; two sons, Billie Ross “Tripp” James III and wife, Alexander, of Brandon and Joshua Skylar James and wife, Beth, of Oakland; four grandchildren, Baird James, Cody James, Mary Elise James, and Hayden Baker; and his sister, Jerilou James Moore and husband, Walt, of Oakland. Billie also leaves behind countless friends, close family, and a community that will miss him always. He was preceded in death by his parents, Billie Ross, Sr., and Grace Harrison James of Gore Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Bryan K. Potts Funeral services for Bryan K. Potts, of Colbert County, Ala., native of Bruce, were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Burial followed in Driver’s Flat Cemetery in Calhoun County. Mr. Potts died Nov. 25, 2009, in Colbert County, Alabama. He was born on June 29, 1971, and was the son of Rodger and Betty Phillips Potts of Water Valley. Mr. Potts was a member of Jumper’s Chapel Congregational Methodist Church in Water Valley. Preceding Mr. Potts in death are grandparents, Alvis and Loretta Phillips and Alvis (Pete) Potts. In addition to his parents, surviving Mr. Potts are two sons, Dustin Potts and Michael Jenkins of Tuscumbia, Ala.; a sister, Kimberley Murphy of Tupelo; his grandparents, Alton and Gladys Blaker of Grenada. Glenda Agnes Moorman Rounsaville Funeral services for Glenda Agnes Moorman Rounsaville, 82, of Charleston are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Newsom Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Magnolia Gardens in Charleston. Visitation is Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral Home. Mrs. Rounsaville died Nov. 28, 2009. She was a homemaker. Surviving Mrs. Rounsaville are husband, Clyde Rounsaville of Charleston; daughter, Sandra Ann Rounsaville of Byhalia; two sisters, Shirley Moorman Weeks of Enid and Thelma Louise Moorman Williamson of Winona; and two grandchildren. George H. Thornton George H. Thornton, 87, of Grenada, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Grenada Living Center. He was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Newton, Miss., to Howell Stanley and Gladys Henton Thornton. Mr. Thornton was an Air Force veteran having served in World War II. He served 11 years on the Grenada City Council and 31 years with U. S. AgriChemical. He attended East Central Community College and received his Bachelors degree from Mississippi State University. Mr. Thornton was a member of First Baptist Church. Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 22, at 2:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Nunnelee officiating. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife, Sarah Hardy Thornton; a daughter, Peggy Ann Thornton Corey of Southaven; a son, George Robert Thornton of Douglasville, Ga.; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one sister, Melba Ruth Mason of Rockville, Md. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howell Stanley and Gladys Henton Thornton; two sisters, Beth Bryan and Sarah Reeves; and one brother, Stanley Thornton.
