The state’s Sales Tax Holiday will take place during a 48-hour time period beginning 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, and ending 12:00 midnight Saturday, July 31, 2010. The popular “back to school” event is worth sales tax  savings to consumers.  All municipalities in Copiah County have opted in to the holiday, meaning that consumers will save the 7% sales tax on qualifying items bought within Hazlehurst, Crystal Springs, Wesson and Georgetown.

The items exempt from sales tax during the Sales Tax Holiday period are clothing and footwear items, meant to be worn next to the body and cost $100 or less per item.

Accessories such as jewelry, handbags, wallets, watches, backpacks, and similar items do not qualify for the Sales Tax Holiday. Cleats and items worn in conjunction with an athletic or recreational activity are other sample items not eligible. School supplies and computers are not included.

All retail businesses within the corporate limits of the municipality not participating must charge and remit to the state sales tax on all sales that would normally be exempt under the Sales Tax Holiday.
