Nightly rentals in Stone County that were in operation prior to August 5th of this year are grandfathered into the new planning and zoning system. Stone County commissioners sought outside counsel on the legal question and this afternoon received a report that pre-existing nightly rentals are exempt from changes to the P & Z ordinance.

It's estimated there are between 150 and 200 nightly rentals that will be grandfathered into the new planning and zoning system. New businesses of this category will have to go through the normal P & Z process.
