The Wonderful World of Art

The creative way Mrs. Cindy Canfield introduces her young subjects to the world of art, is just one of the reasons she has been named our Hometown Radio Ozark Mountain Bank Teacher of the Month.  She also serves as an incredible example of strength, perseverance and determination, as she continues her fight against breast cancer that she has actively battled for the past year.  Even through chemotherapy, radiation and illness, she has kept a positive attitude and continues to do the job she loves so much…teaching art to some 500 elementary students that she has been doing for the past 25 years years.  Each year she organizes a family night of art at Hollister, where students and their parents and other family members can take an interactive part in a “hands-on” experience  involving  not only "art" but also geography, the environment, science or some other tangible element.  This year’s event will be produced by other faculty members and students at Hollister Elementary,  held on March 6 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm and will be an art auction and supper to benefit Cindy Canfield.

Some of Mrs. Wanda Miles 1st graders wrote letters nominating Mrs. Canfield for the Ozark Mountain Bank Teacher of the Month.  They all said “she was a really nice teacher” and takes them on “really neat field trips,” and “helps us make really cool presents for our family!”  Their enthusiasm about their art and Mrs. Canfield was evident at our celebratory lunch, where we dined on Luigi’s pizza and other refreshments from Harter House.    A number of first graders, Mrs. Miles, other teaching assistants, Principal Pam Davis, Assistant Principal Landon Gray, along with First Class Maid Jamie, Kristina Hagey, Roger Frieze, Joan Deberry and Janet Ellis were in the art room to enjoy the lunch and presentation of the plaque created by Sherry from The Sign Man, in addition to gifts and certificates from Ozark Mountain Bank, Branson Titanic Museum Attraction,  Dunkin Donuts, Discovery Center of Springfield and Famous Dave’s BBQ and Luigi’s Pizza Kitchen.

If you know of a deserving educator in the area, nominate them for the Ozark Mountain Bank Teacher of the Month.   Letters can be emailed to Janet Ellis @krzk.com or mailed to or dropped by Hometown Radio, 202 Courtney, Branson, 65616.  Tell who you are nominating, where they teach and why they should be named as our Teacher of the Month.
